Dr. Larry J. Oesterle
Professor and Chair
Dr. Larry Oesterle has more than 40 years experience in dentistry and orthodontics, and teaching. Dr. Oesterle attended the University of Northern Iowa (BA Degree) as an undergraduate before entering the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry (DDS degree). He completed a general practice internship at the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, Lackland AFB, Texas. He then returned to the University of Iowa for his Orthodontic Residency and earned his MS and Certificate in Orthodontics. Dr. Oesterle is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Oesterle has recieved numerous honors and awards for his achievements in orthodontics, and education dentistry. He has been widely published for the important research contributions he has made to the field and continues in that tradition today as Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthodontics. Dr. Oesterle serves as a Reviewer on several editorial boards of journals and consultant to several colorado hospitals and organizations.

Ricky E. Harrell, DMD
Associate Professor C/T and Director of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Orthodontics
Education
Dr. Harrell attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham and earned his BS degree in biology. Dr. Harrell then attended the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine. He returned to the University of Alabama and completed his orthodontic residency. He more recently received his Emergency Medical Technician certification.

Dr. Harrell has been a full-time faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics since 2006. He also served as a Visiting Adjunct Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry from 2007-2010. He is certified as a BLS Instructor. He was one of four orthodontists awarded a teaching scholarship from the American Association of Orthodontist and attended the Academy of Academic Leadership at the University of North Carolina and the Charis and Academic Administrators Management Program at the University of the Pacific.
Experience in patient care
During dental school, Dr. Harrell worked for 3 years in the Department of Oral Surgery at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. Upon graduation, Dr. Harrell served as a commissioned dental officer in the United States Public Health Service, Navajo Area Indian Health Service. He was in charge of all dental care at the BIA Boarding School in Shonto, AZ and provided emergency medical care to 1200 students and the population of the surrounding 400 sq. miles. Following completion of his orthodontic residency, Dr. Harrell was in the private practice of orthodontics in Westminster, CO for over 20 years before becoming a full time educator. He also serves as a general dentist in the US Army Reserves and has provided dental care in exotic locations such as El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Education
Dr. Miller earned his Bachelor Degree from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas, and earned his dental degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He then completed his orthodontic training and obtained a Master of Science in Dentistry degree from Baylor University.

Terri Tilliss
Professor
Education
Dr. Tilliss earned a Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Iowa and received her Master of Science degree in Dental Hygiene Education from the same University. She obtained a Master of Arts degree from the University of Colorado in Counselor Psychology and Counselor Education. Her PhD in Health and Behavioral Sciences was earned at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Tilliss has been in dental education for 29 years, having taught in the baccalaureate Dental Program. She currently teaches communication and behavior change Skills to dental students and residents.
Experience in patient care
She has practiced dental hygiene for 35 years in the private practice setting and within the faculty practice. She supervised dental hygiene patient care in the student clinics for nearly 30 years. Currently, in addition to seeing patients in the faculty practice, Dr. Tilliss provides dental hygiene services to orthodontic patients in the Resident clinic.
